Roger Hinds Surfboards Collaborates with Surftech

Roger Hinds and Surftechnitians are stoked to announce the new collaboration of Roger Hinds Surfboards with Surftech for 2023. For Roger, a longtime believer in EPS and Epoxy construction, the combination of his most popular shapes with Surftech’s advanced surfboard construction couldn’t come at a better time. As a one man show that has a longstanding reputation for building high quality surfboards in both Poly and Epoxy construction from start to finish with “one pair of hands” the union with Surftech will allow more surfers to enjoy Roger’s designs on a global scale.

“It’s hard to accept the need to turn away orders due to production capacity limitations, and by partnering with Surftech I will be able to bring my most popular models to the marketplace and make them available to all my customers.” — Roger Hinds

Based on the current trends and recent sales of Roger Hinds Surfboards, Surftech will be releasing 4 of Roger’s most popular designs; one longboard, one midlength, and two shortboards. The “Renaissance” longboard sets the standard for one of the best all around longboards available anywhere today. Taking key design elements from the 60’s, when longboards were at the top of their game, and blending them with modern rail and bottom elements makes the Renaissance Roger’s most popular longboard. Roger believes Surftech’s Tuff Lite construction will be perfect for the performance aspects of this model. His “Tamago”, or Egg midlength allows for both casual cruising and performance surfing depending on the surfer and the conditions. A “user-friendly” surfboard and wave magnet that handles a multitude of conditions with ease and makes surfing fun again. Working with Surftech Roger has chosen their EPS/Epoxy for this model. Like chocolate and vanilla, Roger’s shortboard collection features his two most popular models that are uniquely designed to accommodate whichever flavor you desire for your surfing. The “Dream Fish” is a perfect choice for versatility and overall performance surfing, it can be ridden with the characteristics of a Fish or a Thruster depending on the fin setup you choose. Run it as a quad and draw long lines and fly down the line, run it as a thruster and carve tight arcs in the pocket and off the lip. The “Dream Fish” will feature Surftech’s EPS/Epoxy high performance construction. The “Nomad” is a performance driven shortboard that utilizes a larger planing surface and thinner foiling to create a versatile responsive surfboard. Whether ridden as a thruster or with a quad fin set up the “Nomad” will meet any surfer’s performance demands. Like the “Dream Fish” the “Nomad” will feature Surftech’s EPS/Epoxy high performance construction. We look forward to seeing the results of this partnership with Surftech and we are sure you, the surfer, will be happy with the results. Look for these Roger Hinds Surfboards models to be available soon at a Surftech Dealer near you.

About Roger Hinds

Like many Southern California surfers in the 1970s Roger Hinds felt the pull of the Hawaiian Islands and in particular Oahu’s North Shore and reacted accordingly. With no hesitation Roger packed a few belongings and left his comfortable life in the Southern California surf scene to expand his horizons and pursue his dream to build high quality surfboards that worked in the best waves of the world. What started with humble beginnings; stripping down antiquated longboards during the transition era into shortboards, evolved over four generations into an ultimate craftsman that is well known for all aspects and phases of surfboard design and construction today. Roger’s path to perfection reads like a who’s who of established craftsmen, surfers and surfboard labels that warrants review to get a well-rounded picture of his road to excellence. Establishing residence on the North Shore, Roger, quickly began refining his skills under the tutelage of llocal shapers and craftsmen Ed Angulo, Jeff Edwards, and Kent Smith. Soon Roger’s contemporaries would be some of the top surfers from that era that are still well-known today; from Jock Sutherland and Mike Armstrong to longboard World Champions Rusty Keaulana and Taylor Jensen. As time evolved and Roger’s skill set widened to include design, shaping and all aspects of surfboard construction he began production shaping for the popular Hawaiian labels like Blue Hawaii, Russ K and iconic West Coast brands like Harbour Surfboards in Seal Beach, Hobie Surfboards in Dana Point and Weber Surfboards from the South Bay while taking on the responsibility as head shaper for Country Surfboards and Bear USA. Roger’s illustrious history paved the way for his unequalled accomplishments of the last decade. In addition to designing some of the most popular surfboard blank plugs for Clark Foam and more recently US Blanks, his attention to detail and level of quality in every aspect of surfboard construction is reflected in the recognition from his peers and participants in the surfboard building community. Roger was the overall winner of The Icons of Foam shape-off honoring Ben Aipa in 2014 at The Boardroom Show in Del Mar California. He returned in 2015 for a repeat performance in the shape-off that honored San Diego shaping legend Rusty Preisendorfer. Additionally, Roger came in second in the Ultimate Craftsman Exhibit at the same show, losing by just one tenth of a point, with a masterpiece he had created from start to finish that included a checkerboard center stringer and matching checkerboard wood fin. Yes, Roger Hinds lives the art of surfboard construction, and continues to evolve today as an iconic surfboard designer and master craftsman.
